Calling All Witches: It’s Time to Rise!

Writer: Heather WrightHeather Wright

Healers, Change Makers, Witches,

This is not the message I thought I’d be writing in my very first newsletter this year to you all…

With recent social and political shifts, many of us are feeling scared, uncertain, and vulnerable. As empaths, psychics, and healers, we don’t just carry our own emotions—we feel the weight of the collective. The energy is heavy.

But amidst the uncertainty, there are a few truths we can hold on to:

✨ We have each other.

✨ We have our voices.

✨ We have our magick.

As I reflect on the journey that led me to this moment, I can’t ignore the serendipity of our Tea & Tarot shop’s home. The very building we stand in was once owned by Abigail Meigs, a revolutionary of the 1700s who hosted tea and spinning parties in defiance of British rule. She used herbal teas as an act of rebellion—and now, her legacy lives on as a sanctuary for today’s revolutionaries.

My own ancestors instilled in me the power of resilience. As an African American woman, I was raised to know my history, to honor those who came before me, and to never forget the sacrifices made for my generation to stand where we do today. My family’s own personal contributions to the Civil Rights Movement - literally standing right next to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr during his I Have. Dream Speech - taught me what’s possible when courage meets conviction.

My cousin, J.C.Dukes (on Dr. King's Left with the mustache) was positioned as his body guard on August 28, 1963, the day he gave his famous “I Have A Dream ”Speech.

In the 1960s, the word woke was a rallying cry within the Civil Rights Movement—an urgent reminder to stay aware, to recognize injustice, and to resist oppression in all its forms.

Today, we find ourselves at another crossroads, and I feel my ancestors urging me—urging all of us—to stand up.

As my Dad always told us, “if you don’t stand for something, you stand for nothing.”

Witches, resilience is woven into our very essence. We are the descendants of those who refused to be silenced, who defied oppression, who carried their wisdom and power through the darkest of times. To be a Witch is to endure, to rise again and again, stronger each time!

The question is: Are you a true Change Maker? Are you willing to show up for the fight?

I know the fear you may be feeling right now, because I feel it too. But I also feel something else stirring—rage. The kind of rage that transforms fear into action. The kind of rage that refuses to let hate and oppression have the final word.

At the start of this year, I pulled a card from one of my favorite oracle decks, W.I.T.C.H. (Woman In Total Control of Herself), and received the Harpy of Rage. This card reminds us that rage is not weakness—it is power. A force of Dark Feminine energy percolating with us all that refuses to be silenced.

We are stepping into our Villain Eranot as destroyers, but as creators, protectors, and disruptors of broken systems that have failed us. This is a call to arms, not of violence, but of action, collaboration, and unwavering compassion.

How You Can Stand in Your Power

🔥 Pay attention. Stay informed about how social, political, and economic shifts are directly and indirectly affecting you and your community. Knowledge is power—find trusted sources, question narratives, and stay vigilant.

🔥 Don’t take your rights for granted. Our ancestors fought HARD for the freedoms we have today. Do not become complacent. The responsibility to protect and pass them down lies with us.

🔥 Be a safe space. Support your friends, family, and neighbors. Advocate for those whose voices are ignored. Being a true ally means listening, standing up, and taking action. If you’re unsure how to help, we are here to guide you. We will be sharing additional ally-ship support soon.

🔥 Shop small, spend wisely. Local businesses and community-driven spaces need our support now more than ever. Use your dollars as a force for good—because economic power is political power.

🔥 Join the movement. Two major protests are on the horizon. If you can show up, do it. If not, find alternative ways to make your voice heard.

📅 February 28, 2025: Global Economic Blackout – No spending (corporations), no work, no school for 24 hours.

📅 March 15, 2025: Total Shutdown – No work, no shopping (corporations), no travel, no compliance.

Tea & Tarot will remain open in solidarity, offering space for reflection, guidance, and energy protection tools. If you need us, we’re here.

Rooted & Rising: A Community for the Times Ahead

To support each other through these turbulent times, we’re launching Rooted & Rising, a series of Pay-What-You-Wish workshops. Our practitioners will be offering teachings on protection magick, resilience, and spiritual tools to help you navigate what’s ahead. Everyone is welcome.

To my Queens, Kings, and Royalty of Fire, Earth, Air, and Water, I call on you now:

🔮 Let’s raise our wands in rebellion!

🌿 Let’s honor the elements and channel our magick into meaningful action!

🔥 Let’s fight for ourselves, our neighbors, and our collective future!

This is our moment to unite, to rise, and to BE the change we seek in the world. If the Harpy of Rage has sparked a fire in your heart, let it burn bright. Together, we will create a world where love, justice, and magick prevail.

I stand beside you, heart open, ready to hold space for your strength, your courage, and your fire.

Let’s get to work, Witches!

In love, solidarity and magick,

Heather
